Friend’s Outing Turns Tragic As 14-Year-Old Swept Away And Found Drowned In Sungai Langat

Date:

What began as a recreational outing between two friends ended in tragedy when a teenage boy was found drowned in Sungai Langat near Kampung Rantau Panjang, Batu 14, today.

The victim, 14-year-old Muhamad Arif Asyraf Zaiful Anuar, had reportedly gone to the river with a friend before the incident occurred around 1pm.

It is understood that the teenager was swimming in an area where the water was about neck-deep before he was swept by a strong current into deeper waters.

Selangor Fire and Rescue Department Operations Assistant Director Ahmad Mukhlis Mukhtar said the victim’s friend, Daniel Fakhri Rino Eka Putra, later lodged a police report, prompting a distress call to authorities at about 2.57pm.

He said a team of firefighters was deployed to the scene along with a fibre boat for search and rescue operations.

“The team arrived at around 3.37pm and immediately began surface search operations,” he said in a statement.

The victim was found at about 4.02pm, approximately two kilometres from the location where he was believed to have drowned.

He was confirmed dead by Health Ministry personnel at 4.06pm, before the body was handed over to police.

The remains were later sent to Ampang Hospital for further action.
