Highway Tragedy: Harley Rider Dies, Wife Injured In Brutal BMW Collision

Date:

A man was killed in a tragic road accident after his high-powered motorcycle skidded and he was subsequently run over by a BMW along Kilometer 74.7 of the North-South Expressway northbound near the Machap Rest and Service Area yesterday afternoon.

In the 3.25pm incident, the victim, identified as 47-year-old S.P. Thavasegaran, was riding a Harley Davidson Street Glide with his 44-year-old wife, D. Shivamalar, as a pillion rider. He died at the scene due to severe injuries, while his body was sent to Hospital Enche’ Besar Hajjah Khalsom (HEBHK) in Kluang for post-mortem.

His wife sustained injuries to her left shoulder and is currently receiving treatment in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at Hospital Sultanah Nora Ismail (HSNI), Batu Pahat.

Kluang district police chief Assistant Commissioner Bahrin Mohd. Noh said initial investigations showed both the motorcycle and a BMW driven by a 25-year-old man were travelling from Johor Bahru towards Batu Pahat.

Upon reaching the location, the motorcyclist is believed to have made a sudden attempt to enter the Machap R&R area, causing him to lose control and crash.

The couple fell onto the left lane before sliding into the right lane of the highway. A BMW travelling behind them was unable to stop in time and struck the rider, resulting in the victim being trapped beneath the vehicle.

The BMW driver escaped unhurt, and the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
