Police are actively tracking down the driver of a sports utility vehicle (SUV) who fled the scene after hitting three pedestrians, killing two of them in an incident at Jalan Pekan Baru on Friday evening.
Klang Utara district police chief Assistant Commissioner S Vijaya Rao said the incident occurred at about 7.40pm when the SUV, travelling from Jalan Meru towards Bandar Baru Klang, reportedly lost control and struck the victims who were walking along the left side of the road.
Following the collision, the driver is believed to have fled the scene without rendering assistance.
Two local women, aged 57 and 62 and who are siblings, were confirmed dead at the scene due to severe head injuries. A 17-year-old male, believed to be the son of one of the victims, sustained minor injuries.
Police said the injured teenager, a secondary school student, will have his statement recorded to assist investigations.
Authorities are urging members of the public with information on the incident to contact the investigating officer, Traffic Inspector Ahmad Fadzli Abdullah, or report to the nearest police station.
The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
