Kuching Man Sentenced to 11 Months for Killing Cat With Wood

Date:

A 38-year-old man in Kuching has been sentenced to 11 months’ imprisonment for fatally assaulting a cat with a piece of wood.

Magistrate Nursyaheeqa Nazwa Radzali handed down the sentence to Shaifulnizam Abdul Rahman @ Latip after he changed his plea to guilty, according to the Borneo Post.

Shaifulnizam was charged with committing mischief by killing the cat at a 24-hour laundromat on Jalan Astana in Kuching, Sarawak, at 12.17pm on December 30. The offence falls under Section 428 of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum penalty of three years’ imprisonment, a fine, or both.

Authorities acted after CCTV footage of the attack circulated online, showing Shaifulnizam striking the cat with the piece of wood. He was arrested on January 1.

Reports suggest the assault was allegedly provoked after a nearby cat had bitten him.
