Man, 57, Found Dead in Locked Flat After Firefighters Forced Entry

Date:

A 57-year-old man was found dead inside his locked flat at Sri Saujana, Lebuh Macallum, yesterday after firefighters forced open the door at the request of police.

Penang Fire and Rescue Department assistant director (operations) John Sagun Francis said an emergency call was received at 1.03pm, prompting a team from the Lebuh Pantai fire station to be deployed to the ninth-floor unit.

He said police informed firefighters that the man was believed to be inside the flat.

“Using specialised tools, we forced open the locked door and found the occupant unconscious.

“Medical personnel from the Health Ministry later confirmed that the man had died,” he said in a statement.

John added that the victim’s body was handed over to police for further investigation.

The operation concluded at 1.45pm.
