Police have arrested a man believed to be driving a trailer under the influence of alcohol along Jalan Sidam Kiri, Kedah at around 1pm on Tuesday.
Kuala Muda district police chief Assistant Commissioner Hanyan Ramlan said the suspect, a man in his 30s, was detained by officers from the Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division during an Op Mabuk operation conducted in the district.
Initial screening tests found the driver to be positive for alcohol, with further testing confirming that he was indeed driving while intoxicated. Authorities said the operation forms part of ongoing efforts to curb drunk driving and enhance road safety.
Further checks on the suspect’s driving documents raised additional concerns, as police believe he may have been in possession of two fake driving licences.
“The screening test showed the driver tested positive for alcohol, and follow-up tests confirmed he was driving under the influence. Checks also indicate the suspect is suspected of holding two counterfeit licences,” he said.
The suspect has been detained for further investigation, and a remand application is expected to be made on Wednesday. The case is being investigated under Section 45 of the Road Transport Act for driving under the influence of alcohol.
