An unemployed man was sentenced to six years in prison and one stroke of the cane after pleading guilty to physically sexually assaulting his girlfriend’s minor daughter, the Ayer Keroh Sessions Court ruled today.
Judge Raja Noor Adilla Raja Mahyaldin handed down the sentence against Muhammad Ilyas Mohd. Mokhtar, 48, who entered a guilty plea as soon as the charge was read out by the court interpreter.
According to the charge, the assault took place inside a vehicle on the night of April 23 while travelling from Batu 4½, Kampung Bertam Malim to Ayer Molek. The victim, a 14-year-old girl, was subjected to the assault between 9 p.m. and 10 p.m.
The accused was charged under Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017.
After hearing submissions from both sides, the court imposed the six-year custodial sentence backdated to April 28, the date of the accused’s arrest, alongside the mandatory caning order.
