A man has sparked public outrage after allegedly stealing several telekung from a boutique in a shopping mall.
The incident was shared via a closed-circuit television (CCTV) recording posted by Instagram user @areejtorla, who claimed the man was seen placing multiple sets of telekung into his backpack before walking away.
The user also criticised the act, stressing that while gifts are acceptable, theft is not justified under any circumstances, adding that items should be purchased rather than taken unlawfully.
According to the post, the incident occurred while one staff member was on a break and another was attending to customers, leaving the store momentarily unattended.
The video quickly went viral, drawing strong reactions from netizens who expressed disappointment and disbelief that items used for religious purposes were targeted.
One user, Eriiiiin.z, commented that it was “disturbing” to see such items stolen, noting that more than one set had been taken.
Another user, Mohshafuan90, suggested that thieves often operate in groups, with one distracting staff while others carry out the theft unnoticed.
Meanwhile, Irismusfirah noted that even if the intention was to give the items as gifts, wrongdoing cannot be justified.
Members of the public have been advised to remain vigilant and ensure better security measures in retail premises to prevent similar incidents from occurring in future.
