Date:

A 25-year-old motorcyclist has died following a collision with a car along Jalan Kuchai Lama, Kuala Lumpur, in an incident that was captured on video and later went viral on social media.

Kuala Lumpur traffic police chief Zamzuri Isa said the crash occurred at about 12.30am on Dec 8, involving a motorcycle and a car travelling from Sri Petaling towards Jalan Klang Lama. Preliminary investigations found that the motorcyclist collided with the car while navigating a bend.

The victim sustained severe head injuries and was rushed to Hospital Canselor Tuanku Muhriz for treatment. However, he succumbed to his injuries the following day, on Dec 9.

Zamzuri said the case was initially investigated under Section 43(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for careless or negligent driving, but was later reclassified under Section 41(1) for causing death by reckless or dangerous driving following the victim’s death.

Police have recorded a statement from the car driver, who lodged a police report on the same day as the incident. Investigations are ongoing, and the case papers are being prepared for submission to the deputy public prosecutor.

Zamzuri also called on any witnesses, including the owner of the dashcam footage, to come forward to assist with the investigation.
