A tragic traffic accident claimed the life of an 82-year-old motorcyclist in Minxiong Township on Thursday morning after he was reportedly run over by a heavy lorry at a busy industrial area intersection.
The fatal crash happened at around 8am near the junction of Wenhua Road and Gongye 1st Road within the Minxiong Industrial Zone.
According to reports, the lorry was travelling straight towards a local meat market when it collided with the motorcycle ridden by the elderly man.
The rider reportedly fell onto the road before being crushed by the lorry’s right-side wheels.
Emergency responders arriving at the scene found the victim lying in a pool of blood and confirmed he had already died at the location. He was not sent to hospital.
Witnesses claimed the lorry appeared unable to stop in time during the collision, causing a horrifying scene that shocked nearby road users and workers during the morning rush hour.
The accident also caused major traffic congestion in the area as police officers rushed to seal off the scene and redirect vehicles.
According to police, the lorry driver told investigators he only realised the motorcyclist was already on the ground when he noticed him.
Authorities are still investigating the exact cause of the crash and determining responsibility for the fatal incident.
