Pakistani Escapee Caught After Days Hiding In Forest And Construction Sites

Date:

A Pakistani detainee who escaped from Sungai Buloh Prison on 9 April was successfully recaptured on Saturday after spending nearly a week hiding in forested areas and nearby construction sites to evade authorities.

Immigration Director-General Zakaria Shaaban confirmed that the suspect was arrested at approximately 5pm following six days of intelligence-led operations, supported by information sharing from the Pakistani Embassy. The man was located at Kilometer 24, Batu 14 along Jalan Gombak Lama.

Authorities revealed that the suspect failed to produce any valid identification documents during inspection. He also attempted to flee upon being approached, but was swiftly apprehended by the enforcement team on the scene.

Initial investigations found that the detainee admitted to escaping while disembarking from a police truck. Throughout his time on the run, he reportedly hid in nearby जंगल and construction areas during the day, only venturing into construction sites at night to seek shelter and rest due to safety risks and potential threats from wild animals. Such tactics reflect a desperate attempt to remain undetected under difficult conditions.

To avoid being identified, the suspect allegedly wore clothing stolen from construction sites. Further checks revealed that he had entered Malaysia via Kuala Lumpur International Airport on 11 January 2025 using a 30-day social visit pass.

Verification by representatives from the Pakistani Embassy confirmed his identity as the same individual who had escaped from police custody. He is now being held at an Immigration Depot for further investigation under the Immigration Act 1959/63.

Earlier reports indicated that police had intensified efforts to track down the 24-year-old detainee, identified as Muhammad Hassan, who is facing multiple charges. These include sexual offences under Section 377C of the Penal Code, robbery under Section 392, as well as immigration-related offences under Section 15(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63.
