A Honda City carrying three police officers and a narcotics suspect was involved in a six-vehicle crash at Kilometre 231.2 of the North-South Expressway (PLUS) southbound on Friday.
The incident occurred at around 1.50pm while the vehicle from the Seberang Perai police headquarters (IPD) was transporting the suspect to Simpang Renggam Prison in Johor.
Rembau deputy police chief Deputy Superintendent Azmi Ali said the crash involved six vehicles — a Honda City, Toyota Hilux, Toyota Vios, Honda CR-V, Honda Jazz, and Proton Persona.
“Initial investigations found that the accident is believed to have started when a Toyota Hilux travelling in the far-right lane lost control, crashed into the road barrier on the right side, and ended up blocking the right lane of the highway.
“At the same time, a Toyota Vios approaching from behind attempted to brake to avoid a collision but was rear-ended by the Honda City carrying three police officers from the Seberang Perai Utara IPD and a 33-year-old male suspect,” he told Sinar Harian on Friday.
He added that three other vehicles — a Honda CR-V, Honda Jazz, and Proton Persona — travelling behind also failed to avoid the collision and crashed into the vehicles ahead.
However, Azmi said the accident did not result in any serious injuries and only caused damage to the vehicles involved.
