A local man and a foreign woman were arrested after a high-speed attempt to evade police ended in a collision involving another vehicle during a chase in Petaling Jaya on Friday night.
Petaling Jaya district police chief Shamsudin Mamat said authorities were alerted at about 9.08pm after a patrol unit pursued a Proton Prevé that attempted to flee from a police inspection along the New Klang Valley Expressway near the Subang toll exit heading towards Shah Alam.
During the pursuit, the suspect, a 45-year-old man, allegedly drove dangerously before entering the Subang Jaya interchange and crashing into a black BMW at a traffic light junction along Persiaran Tujuan. Both suspects were later apprehended at the scene.
Following the arrest, police discovered 17 transparent packets containing suspected drugs weighing approximately 16 grams during a search of the vehicle. The male suspect is believed to have an extensive criminal record, with 21 prior offences related to crime and drugs, while the female suspect has no previous record.
Initial urine screening also indicated that the male suspect tested positive for methamphetamine. Both individuals have since been remanded for three days until Monday to assist investigations.
The case is being investigated under multiple provisions, including Section 186 of the Penal Code for obstructing public servants, Section 12(2) and Section 39A(1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, and Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless driving.
Police have urged members of the public with information related to the incident to come forward by contacting the nearest police station or the Petaling Jaya District Police Headquarters operations room to assist in ongoing investigations.
