Police are appealing to the public for information regarding a fatal car crash that claimed two lives along Jalan Permatang Baru, Sungai Lokan.
Seberang Perai Utara District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Anuar Abdul Rahman, said both victims — believed to be the driver and passenger — were burned to death after their car caught fire.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the victims, whose identities have yet to be confirmed, were traveling in a Proton Saga from Permatang Tiga toward Sungai Dua.
“When they reached the location, the car is believed to have gone out of control, skidded, and crashed into a pile of soil on the left side of the road before catching fire,” he said in a statement last night.
The crash killed both victims on the spot. Their remains were sent to the Forensic Unit of Hospital Kepala Batas (HKB) for post-mortem examination. The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death by reckless or dangerous driving.
Police are urging anyone with information about the incident to contact the Seberang Perai Utara District Police Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department at 04-5757946, or to visit the nearest police station to assist in the investigation.
