Quick Action By Fisherman Saves Man Who Fell Into River Near Kuala Selangor Bridge

Date:

A quick response by a fisherman helped save a man who fell into the Selangor River near the Kuala Selangor Bridge yesterday.

The victim, believed to be in his 50s, was reportedly in an unstable condition before falling from a jetty area.

The Malaysian Civil Defence Force (APM) Kuala Selangor said it received an emergency call from the public at 7.26am, prompting the deployment of three personnel to the scene.

“The rescue team carried out search and rescue operations at the location where the victim was swept away by the current,” it said.

The victim was later brought to the Kuala Selangor District Operations Control Centre (PKOD) for further action and initial monitoring.

According to authorities, before the incident was discovered, a local fisherman nearby heard a loud impact, believed to be an object falling into the river.

He then saw the victim struggling in the water and calling for help. At the same time, the strong river current carried the victim about 500 metres from the original location.

The fisherman immediately used his boat to provide early assistance, helping keep the victim afloat until help arrived.

APM Kuala Selangor confirmed that the victim has since been handed over to family members who came to the PKOD and was taken home.

The agency praised the swift cooperation between the public and rescue teams, saying it helped speed up emergency response and ensured the victim was safely rescued.
