Restaurant Management Issues Apology Over Food Packaging Containing “Allah” Inscriptions

Date:

The management of Restoran Thoulath Maju has formally apologised following a viral social media controversy involving food packaging printed with the words ‘ALLAH’, ‘Muhammad’, and ‘Masya-ALLAH’. The issue gained significant traction on the platform Threads, where customers highlighted the inappropriate use of sacred inscriptions on disposable wrappers at the restaurant’s Kota Warisan branch in Sepang, Selangor. In response, the establishment has taken full responsibility and confirmed that all affected packaging was withdrawn from use starting Saturday night.

Branch manager Abdul Razak Abu Bakar stated that the management had no intention of offending the sensitivities of the Muslim community. He explained that the oversight occurred because the team failed to notice the specific religious inscriptions on the older stock of packaging being used at the premises. Upon being alerted to the situation via social media, the management acted immediately to replace the wrappers with a new, plain version across all three of the restaurant’s branches to ensure consistency and respect.

The controversy was first brought to light by a Threads user, @m1eyy.co, who posted images of the food wrappers used at the Kota Warisan outlet, located adjacent to a prominent drive-thru fast-food chain. The user expressed concern over the disrespectful placement of holy names on items intended for disposal. However, in a subsequent update, the same individual confirmed that the restaurant had swiftly rectified the situation by switching to new packaging, expressing hope that such an incident would not happen again in the future.

Addressing the fate of the remaining old packaging, Abdul Razak provided an assurance that the materials would be handled with the utmost care. He clarified that the management would not simply discard or incinerate the wrappers, as doing so would be considered sinful given the sacred nature of the text. Instead, the surplus stock has been safely secured in a storage room while the management seeks advice on the most respectful method of disposal in accordance with religious guidelines.

The restaurant has reiterated its commitment to improving its operational standards and sensitivity towards the public. Abdul Razak remarked that the establishment remains open to constructive criticism from its patrons to facilitate better service and community relations. By acknowledging the mistake openly and taking immediate corrective measures, the management hopes to resolve the matter and reassure its customers of its dedication to maintaining religious and cultural decorum in its business practices.
