A 65-year-old retired policewoman was arrested in Melaka last night after leading authorities on a nearly 50-kilometre chase from Rembau.
Rembau deputy police chief Azmi Ali said the suspect was detained at Jalan Bukit Beruang in Melaka at around 10.30pm.
Police later discovered four pills believed to be ecstasy inside the Honda City driven by the woman, who also tested positive for amphetamine.
According to Azmi, the incident began when a Mobile Patrol Vehicle (MPV) unit received instructions to head to Taman Sedia Raja in Rembau after reports that a black Honda City had crashed into another vehicle before fleeing the scene.
“The MPV team later spotted the vehicle and attempted to stop it, but the suspect refused to cooperate and sped off towards Melaka,” he said in a statement on Tuesday.
He added that with assistance from patrol officers from Royal Malaysia Police units in Kota, Alor Gajah and Melaka Tengah, the suspect’s vehicle was eventually intercepted in Bukit Beruang.
A search on the suspect did not uncover any illegal items. However, police later inspected the vehicle in her presence and found a bag containing a transparent plastic packet with four pills suspected to be ecstasy.
Authorities also received reports linking the suspect’s vehicle to a road accident involving a Toyota Hiace van and a Perodua Viva in Rembau.
No injuries were reported by the complainants involved in the crash.
The case is being investigated under Section 12(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 and Rule LN 166/59.
