Shop Owner Arrested Over ‘Allah’ Display In Temple At Perlis Premises

Date:

A 61-year-old man has been detained to assist in investigations over the controversial display of the word “Allah” inside a small temple located within a hardware shop along Persiaran Jubli Emas.

Perlis Police Chief, Muhammad Abdul Halim, said the suspect, believed to be the premises owner, was arrested at around 3pm following reports lodged with authorities. The case has since drawn widespread attention after related visuals circulated online.

Police have urged the public to refrain from making speculation or provocative statements regarding the incident, stressing the importance of allowing authorities to carry out a thorough and fair investigation. Cases involving religious sensitivities often require careful handling to preserve public order and harmony.

“The case is being investigated under Section 298 of the Penal Code and Section 14 of the Minor Offences Act 1955,” he said, confirming that multiple reports had been received in connection with the matter.

Authorities are also working to identify individuals involved in recording and spreading the viral video, while statements have been taken from the premises owner to assist in the probe. The incident underscores how quickly sensitive issues can escalate in the digital age, particularly when shared widely on social media.

The case previously went viral after footage emerged showing the “Allah” inscription inside the small temple, prompting several police reports from non-governmental organisations as well as members of the public.
