A tragic incident shook the quiet fishing island of Pulau Ketam early this morning when a mother from Singapore reportedly jumped into the sea with her three-year-old daughter in an apparent murder-suicide. The heartbreaking scene has left local residents and tourists in shock.
According to former village head Chua Chuan Chee, the mother and daughter had just arrived on the island the day before and checked into a local hotel.
The tragedy unfolded around 6 a.m. today, when witnesses reported seeing the pair jump into the sea from a pavilion next to the island’s volunteer fire station.
“Their bodies were retrieved from the water at approximately 7 a.m.,” said Chua. “Medical personnel on the island attempted to resuscitate them with CPR, but sadly, both had already passed away.”
The incident has sparked grief and confusion among the island’s tight-knit community, with many questioning what could have driven the mother to take such a drastic step with her young child.
Chua added that a note believed to be a suicide letter was found at the scene, hinting at possible family-related issues. However, authorities have yet to confirm the contents or motive, as investigations are still ongoing.
The bodies have been sent to Klang General Hospital for post-mortem examination. Police are continuing their investigation to determine the full circumstances surrounding the tragedy.
