Police have arrested an unemployed man suspected of peeping on a woman while she was bathing at a house in Taman Sri Bukit Tawau, Jalan Merotai, on Wednesday.
The 30-year-old local suspect was detained around 4pm following a joint operation by the Criminal Investigation Division (CID) of the Tawau District Police Headquarters and Bombalai Police Station, after a report was lodged on the incident.
Tawau District Police Chief ACP Jasmin Hussin said the incident was discovered by the 29-year-old victim while she was bathing at about 9.15pm the day before.
“Based on CCTV footage, a man was seen trespassing into the victim’s compound before peeping on her while she was bathing,” he said in a statement.
He added that acting on information, police managed to arrest the suspect and also seized clothing believed to have been worn during the incident.
Checks also revealed that the suspect has two prior criminal records involving drug and violent crime offences dating back to 2013 and 2015.
The suspect is now being investigated under Section 507A of the Penal Code for voyeurism.
