Test Drive Turns Heist: Suspects Drive Off With Ford Ranger

Date:

Two men allegedly drove off with a four-wheel-drive (4×4) vehicle immediately after a test drive session in Gemencheh, here, on Wednesday afternoon.

Tampin district police chief Superintendent Amiruddien Sariman said the incident occurred at about 5.50pm when the suspects met the victim after responding to an online advertisement on social media.

He said police received a report at about 8.45pm on May 22 regarding the disappearance of a Ford Ranger that had been handed over for a test drive as part of a sales process.

“In this case, the suspects contacted the complainant and said they wanted to view and test-drive the 4×4 advertised on Facebook as they intended to purchase it,” he said in a statement.

He added that the suspects, together with an accomplice, met the victim, a 42-year-old man, to carry out the test drive.

After completing the test drive, the victim allegedly attempted to exit the vehicle when one of the suspects suddenly sped off with the pickup truck.

The stolen vehicle is a black Ford Ranger 2.0L (Raptor) bearing registration number VEP 8787, with an estimated loss of RM100,000.

The suspects were also said to be travelling in a dark-coloured Mini Cooper Countryman with a fake registration number VLQ 1366, which was later found to be falsified.

The case is being investigated under Sections 379A and 336 of the Penal Code, and efforts to track down the suspects are ongoing.

Police have urged anyone with information to contact the Tampin District Police Headquarters or any nearby police station to assist in the investigation.

In a related development, a video uploaded on Threads showed the stolen vehicle allegedly crashing into an MPV before skidding off the road.
