Three Men Plead Not Guilty Over Brutal Kepong Bak Kut Teh Assault

Three men accused of violently assaulting a long-haired man at a bak kut teh restaurant in Kepong claimed trial at the Sessions Court on Thursday to charges of jointly causing grievous hurt, and were denied bail.

The accused, identified as 49-year-old Wong Wing Lun, 33-year-old Lai Kai Bin and 30-year-old Wan Kai Fai (names transliterated), pleaded not guilty after the charges were read out to them in Mandarin before Sessions Court judge Noridah.

The trio were accused of intentionally causing serious injuries to 48-year-old victim Cheng Teck Wah during an incident that allegedly occurred at around 2am on May 7 at Hing Kee Bak Kut Teh restaurant along Jalan Kepong in Kuala Lumpur.

They were charged under Section 326 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing grievous hurt using dangerous weapons or objects, read together with Section 34 for common intention.

If convicted, the accused face a maximum jail sentence of 20 years, along with possible fines or whipping.
