Thai police have arrested two 14-year-old boys after they were found carrying almost 30 kilograms of illegal drugs following a failed attempt to evade a checkpoint in Chiang Rai province.
The incident took place on April 30, 2026, in Ban Wiang Sa village, Sri Kham subdistrict, Mae Chan district, where officers from Mae Chan Police Station were conducting routine anti-narcotics operations.
According to police, the teenagers—identified as Toon and Kla—were riding a motorcycle when they were signalled to stop for inspection. However, they allegedly tried to flee when they noticed authorities at the checkpoint.
During the escape attempt, the motorcycle reportedly lost control after a bag became dislodged, causing the vehicle to crash at the roadside.
Police immediately detained the two suspects at the scene and discovered a large black bag containing around 29.9 kilograms of drugs, including crystal methamphetamine and ketamine packed in multiple bundles.
Authorities believe another motorcycle linked to the same group managed to escape during the confusion, and efforts are now underway to track down additional suspects involved in the trafficking network.
Investigations are ongoing as police work to determine the source and distribution chain of the seized narcotics, which are believed to be part of a larger drug trafficking operation in the region.
