UMNO has stressed that all programme organisers must ensure their events are grounded in clear principles and must not disregard cultural values, religious sensitivities, etiquette and the norms of Malaysian society.
Party president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said UMNO takes seriously the views raised by the Federal Territories Islamic Religious Department (JAWI) and the Federal Territories Mufti Department, describing them as reflecting the concerns of many Malaysians.
He said such perspectives should be respected, adding that the party has called for the proposed programme to be reviewed in terms of its concept, content and overall implementation.
According to him, event guidelines must be strengthened and tightened to ensure that all forms of programming remain consistent with the nation’s cultural values, religious principles and identity.
Ahmad Zahid also reiterated UMNO’s position that entertainment is not prohibited, but it must remain within proper boundaries and should not compromise core values.
He emphasised that development and modernisation can continue, but moral and societal values must remain intact, urging organisers to engage with relevant authorities to maintain public harmony.
The statement comes amid growing debate over the Rain Rave Water Music Festival 2026 in Kuala Lumpur, which has drawn criticism from various quarters over concerns about cultural and moral sensitivity.
Earlier, JAWI had expressed objection to the event, warning that it could negatively impact moral standards and social values, while the Federal Territories Mufti Department also stated that entertainment must comply with Islamic guidelines and avoid elements of wrongdoing.
