Two Men Slashed With Sickle And Axe In Kota Kinabalu Attack

Two men were injured after being attacked with a sickle and an axe in an incident near a bridge close to Block C, Kampung Sembulan Lama, on Sunday night.

The attack, which occurred at around 8pm, allegedly involved a local man known as “Totong”, who is believed to have assaulted the victims aged 39 and 35 following an argument.

Kota Kinabalu police chief Kasim Muda said preliminary investigations revealed that the victims were at the location with several friends to purchase drinks before a misunderstanding broke out with the suspect.

“A quarrel erupted between the victims and a local man known as ‘Totong’. The suspect is believed to have later returned to his house to retrieve sharp weapons, namely a sickle and an axe,” he said in a statement on Monday.

According to Kasim, the suspect then returned to the scene and attacked both victims, causing the first victim to suffer injuries to the back of the neck and leg, while the second victim sustained wounds to the neck and arm.

Both victims were rushed to a nearby hospital for further treatment and were reported to be in stable condition.

Police have since conducted inspections at the scene and recorded statements from the complainant as well as several witnesses to assist in the ongoing investigation.

Authorities are currently tracking down the suspect, and members of the public with information related to the incident have been urged to come forward to aid investigations.

The case is being investigated under Section 326 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing grievous hurt using dangerous weapons.

Police also advised the public against spreading speculation or unverified information that could interfere with the investigation.
