A viral video showing a woman accidentally crushing an injured electric bike rider while trying to help him has left Chinese netizens both amused and touched.
The incident, believed to have happened somewhere in China, began circulating widely online from May 23 and quickly sparked heated discussion across social media platforms.
According to the footage, a man riding an electric bike had crashed and fallen onto the road, with the vehicle trapping him underneath.
Moments later, a woman riding a smaller electric scooter noticed the accident and immediately stopped to offer assistance.
The woman then attempted to lift the fallen electric bike upright in order to free the injured rider.
However, midway through lifting the heavy vehicle, she appeared to run out of strength and suddenly lost control.
The electric bike immediately toppled back down, causing the woman herself to lose balance and fall directly onto the injured rider together with the bike.
The unexpected “rescue gone wrong” moment quickly went viral online, with many users joking that the woman had almost “rescued him to death.”
One netizen commented: “It started as something touching, but I really couldn’t stop laughing.”
Another joked: “This is what you call helping someone with all your strength… literally.”
Some users humorously described the incident as “secondary damage,” saying the rider was first injured physically before being emotionally traumatised by the failed rescue attempt.
Others questioned why the woman focused on lifting the vehicle first instead of helping the man himself out from underneath it.
Despite the online jokes, several viewers still praised the woman for stopping to help, especially given that stories about bystanders hesitating to assist accident victims in China have frequently surfaced over the years due to fears of getting into legal or financial trouble.
A number of netizens also speculated that the viral clip may have been staged because of how dramatic the accident appeared.
