A 60-year-old woman tragically passed away six days after being hit by a motorcycle ridden by a 5th-grade student on September 24 in Sik. The victim, identified as Zakiah Ariffin, died at her home in Kampung Sadu on Monday evening.
Sik District Police Chief, Superintendent Mohd Azizul Mohd Khairi, confirmed that police were notified of her death at 9 p.m. on Monday. Investigations revealed that the accident occurred around 6 p.m. on September 24 when an 11-year-old boy was riding his motorcycle from Kampung Banggol Kiat heading home to Kampung Namek.
According to Mohd Azizul, Zakiah was crossing the road from the right shoulder to the left when the boy, unable to stop in time due to the short distance, collided with her. The boy fell off the motorcycle but was unharmed. Zakiah was rushed to Sik Hospital for treatment but later died at her home.
The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987. Police stated the accident resulted from the pedestrian crossing without ensuring the road was clear. The boy’s involvement is still under investigation and will be referred to the Public Prosecutor for further action.
