A 70-year-old woman was found dead at her residence in Persiaran Pegoh Aman 2, Taman Desa Aman, last night, with police arresting a suspect at the scene.
Ipoh District Police Chief Assistant Commissioner Muhammad Najib Hamzah said officers rushed to the location after receiving a report and discovered the victim lying motionless inside the house.
He said a medical officer confirmed the woman’s death at the scene. Initial examination revealed injuries believed to have been caused by slashing wounds to her body, head, and neck.
A 52-year-old man was subsequently detained at the location to assist in investigations, police confirmed.
Authorities also recovered a parang believed to have been used in the incident. Police said a remand application will be submitted today to facilitate further investigation.
The motive for the killing remains under investigation, while the victim’s body has been sent to Hospital Raja Permaisuri Bainun for a post-mortem examination.
The case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder, which carries the death penalty or imprisonment of 30 to 40 years, along with whipping upon conviction.
