A woman is believed to have acted out of fear for her personal safety when she leapt from a moving e-hailing vehicle in Taman Eng Ann on Friday morning, in an incident that has raised concerns over passenger security.
North Klang district police chief S Vijaya Rao said authorities received a report at around 9am from a 47-year-old local man, who was the driver of the vehicle involved in the incident. The case has since been classified under reckless conduct provisions as investigations continue.
According to initial findings, the driver was transporting two passengers when one of the women suddenly opened the rear right door and jumped out while the car was still in motion. The driver immediately stopped the vehicle and found that the woman had sustained only minor injuries.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the woman claimed she felt anxious and alarmed, alleging that the driver had been observing her through the rear-view mirror without any clear reason. Her reaction highlights how perceptions of threat, even if unverified, can trigger extreme responses in confined situations.
Following the incident, the driver cancelled the e-hailing booking, while the injured woman was assisted by a passing motorcyclist who took her to a nearby clinic for treatment. The driver later lodged a police report regarding the matter.
Police are currently attempting to trace the woman to assist with the investigation, which is being conducted under Section 336 of the Penal Code for acts that endanger the safety of others. Authorities have urged anyone with information to come forward as efforts continue to piece together the full circumstances of the incident.
