Date:

A 17-year-old boy has undergone a leg amputation after suffering catastrophic injuries in a stabbing incident that took place during the Bank Holiday weekend in South Wales.

The teenager, from Cardiff, was seriously injured on Monday, May 25, in an incident on Barry Island that prompted a major emergency response.

Paramedics rushed the victim to hospital, where he received urgent specialist treatment. However, police have since confirmed that the severity of the injuries ultimately led to the amputation of his leg.

An 18-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of wounding with intent following the attack. He has since been released on bail while investigations continue.

South Wales Police initially believed the teenager’s injuries were not life-changing. However, subsequent medical assessments revealed the full extent of the damage.

Detective Inspector Sarah Lee described the victim’s injuries as “absolutely devastating” and said the impact on the teenager and his family had been profound.

She confirmed that specially trained family liaison officers have been assigned to support the family as they come to terms with the life-altering consequences of the attack.

Investigators are continuing to gather evidence and are reviewing hundreds of hours of CCTV footage from the area in an effort to establish exactly what happened.

Police have not released further details about the circumstances surrounding the stabbing but have appealed for anyone with relevant information to come forward.

The incident has shocked the local community and highlights the devastating and long-lasting consequences of serious knife-related violence, particularly among young people.
