A shocking family tragedy has rocked Indonesia after an 18-year-old man was arrested for allegedly killing his two-year-old nephew at a rented house in Jatisampurna, Bekasi, on 29 May 2026.
Police confirmed that the suspect, identified as Gte, has been officially named as a criminal suspect following an investigation into the incident.
According to investigators, the incident reportedly unfolded while the teenager was playing an online game on his mobile phone. The young victim is believed to have approached the suspect and climbed onto his shoulders, allegedly disrupting his concentration during the game.
Authorities said the disturbance may have triggered an emotional outburst, leading the suspect to lose control.
The suspect is then alleged to have grabbed a kitchen knife and attacked the child inside the house. The toddler was pronounced dead at the scene.
A post-mortem examination revealed the horrifying extent of the injuries. Police said the victim suffered approximately 32 stab wounds, including 20 injuries to the face and another 12 to the body.
“Results from the forensic examination conducted by the Police Hospital found multiple stab wounds on the victim’s face and body, bringing the total number of injuries to around 32,” police said.
In a further disturbing development, officers discovered the suspect lying unconscious and covered in blood at the scene. A knife was reportedly still clutched in his hand when authorities arrived.
Investigators have not ruled out the possibility that mental health issues may have played a role in the incident. Police are also examining reports that the suspect may have been dependent on sedative medication, which could have contributed to his behaviour.
The child’s body has since been laid to rest, while the suspect remains under medical observation and further examination at Kramat Jati Police Hospital in East Jakarta.
Police said investigations are ongoing as authorities work to determine the full motive behind the tragic killing.
