Driver Injured After Car Plunges Two Storeys Into Open Lift Shaft

Date:

A driver was injured after his car crashed into an open lift shaft in a residential parking complex in Mumbai, India, plunging about 25 feet before landing upside down.

The dramatic incident occurred on Monday at Horizon Gold Society in the Charkop area of Maharashtra.

CCTV footage showed the vehicle turning a corner inside the multi-storey car park before driving straight into an empty elevator shaft where no parking platform was in place.

Moments later, the car disappeared from view and crashed two storeys below with a loud impact.

The driver, who reportedly works for a local municipal councillor, suffered injuries in the fall and was rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment.

According to reports, he was unaware that the parking platform on the second floor had been removed, causing him to drive directly into the open shaft.

The housing complex, which is around two years old, uses a stack parking system that relies on lift platforms to move and store vehicles.

Authorities have not released further details on the driver’s condition, and the incident is under investigation.
