The Malaysian Border Control and Protection Agency (AKPS) has seized nine containers suspected of carrying undeclared commercial goods worth more than RM4.13 million at Bintulu Port.
The enforcement action was carried out on Aug 4 by AKPS Bintulu Port in collaboration with officers from the Royal Malaysian Customs Department and the Department of Veterinary Services.
AKPS Port Entry commander Marie Ajeng, who led the operation, said inspections on the containers found that the goods had not been declared as required.
“Further physical checks revealed that the containers contained frozen chicken, which requires an import permit,” she said in a statement.
The seized goods were estimated to be worth RM4,132,440.
Marie said the case has since been handed over to the Customs Department for further investigation and action under Section 133(1)(a) of the Customs Act 1967 for allegedly providing false or incomplete declarations involving imported goods.
She added that AKPS will continue strengthening monitoring and enforcement efforts at the country’s entry points to curb illegal activities, particularly those involving commercial goods that could affect public and national security.
