A female e-hailing driver endured a horrifying attack after allegedly being stabbed and robbed by a male passenger in Khon Kaen, Thailand, leaving her injured, traumatised and questioning whether she will ever return to the profession.
The victim, who suffered a stab wound to her chest and lost several teeth during the assault, later shared her frightening experience on social media as a warning to other drivers, particularly women, to remain vigilant while on duty.
According to the victim, the suspect, believed to be 19 years old, booked an e-hailing ride from Ban Ped to an accommodation facility located behind Khon Kaen University.
Upon arriving at the destination, the passenger allegedly claimed he was unable to pay the fare because his mobile banking application was not working. He then told the driver that a friend would settle the payment on his behalf.
The woman said the suspect made several phone calls but later claimed he was unable to reach anyone. He subsequently asked to be driven back to the original pick-up point, saying he wanted to collect money and promising to pay additional fare charges.
However, once they arrived at the location, the situation reportedly turned violent. The suspect allegedly stabbed the driver in the chest before threatening her and demanding cash.
CCTV footage obtained by local media captured the victim desperately sounding her vehicle’s horn and screaming for help as the attack unfolded. The footage also reportedly recorded a man believed to be the suspect apologising during the incident.
“I’m sorry. I didn’t intend to do this. I just wanted money,” the man was heard saying.
The victim later revealed that she only had around 90 baht in coins, which she normally kept as change for customers. The suspect allegedly took the money before fleeing the scene.
Despite her injuries, the woman managed to drive herself to Ban Ped Police Station to seek assistance. Police subsequently contacted emergency medical personnel and informed the victim’s boyfriend before she was transported to hospital for treatment.
Local media reported that officers successfully arrested the suspect shortly after the incident, although his identity has not yet been publicly disclosed.
The victim said she intends to seek compensation for the losses and injuries she suffered. According to her, the cost of replacing each damaged tooth is estimated to exceed 50,000 baht.
Beyond the physical injuries, the traumatic experience has left a lasting emotional impact. The woman admitted that she no longer wishes to continue working as an e-hailing driver following the terrifying attack.
