An Israeli-American rabbi has come under fire after a video showing him making remarks that allegedly mocked Hindu beliefs and Indian culture circulated widely on social media.
According to India Today, Rabbi Yossi Mizrachi, whose real name is Yosef Mizrachi, allegedly made disparaging comments about Indians, particularly their religious reverence for cows.
In the video, he claimed that some Hindus drink cow urine and also made remarks mocking medical professionals in India.
He further took aim at traffic conditions in New Delhi, claiming that cows roaming the streets caused congestion because the animals were not moved out of the way.
His comments drew criticism from social media users in India and Israel, with many describing them as insulting to Indian religious beliefs and cultural traditions.
Israeli researcher Yeshaya Rosenman also criticised Mizrachi, claiming that such remarks could damage Israel’s reputation internationally.
Meanwhile, Palestinian Ambassador to India Abdullah M Abu Shawesh condemned the act of insulting religious beliefs in a post on X, although he did not directly name Mizrachi.
He stressed that respecting all religions was essential to maintaining harmony and peace within society.
Mizrachi, who is based in the United States, has previously sparked controversy over several remarks concerning religions and particular communities.
As of the time of publication, Mizrachi had not issued an official response to the latest backlash.
