A shooting at a Halloween store in northern California has left one person dead and six others wounded, with police still searching for those responsible.
The incident happened shortly before 8.30pm on Friday (local time) at a Spirit Halloween store inside a shopping mall in Fairfield, about 76km northeast of San Francisco.
Fairfield Police Chief Dan Marshall told reporters that one victim was killed, while six others were taken to hospital with gunshot wounds.
At least three of the injured victims were in critical condition, he added.
Marshall said the scene remained active as investigators worked to establish what happened and identify the attacker or attackers.
“There is still a very active crime scene and investigation going on right now,” he said late on Friday.
Police had yet to identify any suspects at the time of his statement.
The shooting occurred just hours before Halloween celebrations began in the United States on Saturday.
Marshall also clarified that areas outside the Solano Town Centre mall were not under lockdown.
