Lose 50kg In Three Months, Win A Porsche: China Weight-Loss Camp Sparks Debate

Date:

A weight-loss boot camp in Yinchuan, Ningxia, has attracted widespread attention after offering a Porsche Panamera to the participant who loses the most weight and sheds at least 50kg within three months.

The competition, organised by the “Transformation Weight Loss Camp”, promises the luxury car to the top contestant who successfully achieves the target during the 90-day challenge.

According to the camp’s organisers, the Porsche is genuine and currently belongs to the company’s owner, who has been using the vehicle for the past two years. The organisers insist the promotion is legitimate and not a publicity stunt.

To qualify, participants must be between 18 and 50 years old, weigh no more than 150kg, and be free from serious medical conditions such as cardiovascular, liver or kidney diseases. All participants are also required to sign a health declaration form before joining.

The programme costs 11,040 yuan (approximately RM6,500) per person, covering accommodation, meals and training for three months. Organisers said 23 people have already registered, with classes set to begin once the intake reaches 30 participants.

Training sessions include aerobics, kickboxing workouts, strength training, cycling, step exercises and other fitness programmes designed to maximise weight loss.

The challenge has sparked debate online, with many questioning whether losing 50kg in just three months is realistic or safe.

Cheng Yunsheng, a weight-loss specialist from the Second Affiliated Hospital of Anhui Medical University, said such results may be possible for individuals with very high body weight through strict dietary control and scientifically planned exercise. However, he stressed that healthy weight loss should be gradual and sustainable rather than rushed.

Medical experts have also warned that rapid weight loss can pose serious health risks, including muscle loss, hormonal imbalances, hair loss, dehydration and potentially life-threatening complications.

Commentators have cautioned that dramatic weight-loss programmes often result in the loss of water and muscle rather than body fat, making weight regain more likely while increasing the risk of serious medical conditions.

Despite the concerns, the challenge continues to generate buzz on social media. While some users described the Porsche prize as powerful motivation, others criticised the campaign as encouraging participants to gamble with their health for the chance to win a luxury car.

Whether anyone will successfully lose 50kg and drive away in the Porsche remains to be seen.
