A man in Indonesia’s North Maluku province was found dead inside the stomach of a python believed to have swallowed him while he was crossing a forested area.

The victim, identified as Hasim Lumbessy, was reported missing while travelling from Desa Kobo to Desa Waisakai in the Sula Islands.

Local reports stated that three individuals discovered his personal belongings scattered along a road at around 4pm local time, prompting residents to begin a search for him.

Sula Islands Police chief AKBP Handres said villagers later found traces believed to have been left by a snake and followed the trail, which eventually led them to the reptile.

“During the search, residents found the snake’s trail and followed its path until they discovered the python.

“They captured and killed the snake before cutting open its stomach, where they were shocked to find Hasim’s body,” he said.

Handres said the victim was believed to have been attacked by the python before being swallowed, resulting in his death.

The incident has shocked the local community, with authorities continuing to gather information regarding the circumstances surrounding the attack.
