A 29-year-old Thai man caused chaos at a university campus after allegedly driving his sport utility vehicle (SUV) into a swimming pool following a dispute with his mother over condominium rental payments.
The dramatic incident took place at a swimming pool near the Sasapol Building at Chulalongkorn University, leaving students and staff stunned as a white SUV crashed through a safety fence before plunging into the water.
Police officers from Pathum Wan Police Station who arrived at the scene found the vehicle partially submerged, with significant damage to its front section. Three of the SUV’s doors were also found open.
The driver, identified only as Chin, suffered injuries and was transported to Charoenkrung Pracharak Hospital for medical treatment.
Authorities have yet to disclose the extent of his injuries and are also investigating whether anyone else was inside the vehicle at the time of the incident.
According to local media reports, Chin had allegedly been involved in an argument with his mother regarding the rent for the condominium where he was living.
It is understood that he had asked his mother to help cover the rental costs, but she reportedly refused, leading to a heated disagreement.
Following the dispute, Chin is believed to have driven to the university campus before heading towards the swimming pool area.
Security guards reportedly attempted to stop him, but he allegedly accelerated the vehicle, smashed through the surrounding fence and plunged into the pool.
The shocking incident quickly drew attention from onlookers and has since generated widespread discussion on social media, with many expressing disbelief over the unusual sequence of events.
Police said investigations are ongoing to determine the full circumstances surrounding the incident and establish the exact motive behind the driver’s actions.
