A bride in Kaifeng, Henan Province, China, received an unusual show of support from her maternal family when nine of her uncles arrived at her wedding with their hair dyed in nine different colours, sending a playful warning to the groom not to mistreat his new wife.

According to the bride’s friend, the uncles had planned the surprise together and dyed their hair a few days before the wedding. They intended to return to their original hair colours after the celebrations.
The colourful appearance quickly attracted attention online. The uncles later explained that their hair colours each carried special meanings and were chosen to bring good luck and blessings to their niece as she began married life.
The bride’s eldest uncle and his wife wanted to bring good fortune to the newlyweds, while her second uncle chose red to symbolise prosperity and a thriving future. Grape purple, meanwhile, represented hopes that the couple would enjoy success and a colourful life together.
One uncle even opted for blue-green hair, embracing a colour some might consider taboo for a wedding. The unusual gesture prompted amused reactions from viewers, with many praising the uncles for their dedication to their niece.
The bride herself was deeply touched by the show of support. She joked that her uncles were already getting old and admitted she had never seen them, now middle-aged, do anything quite like this before.
She said having so many uncles and aunts standing behind her made her feel supported and loved as she entered a new chapter of her life.
Beyond the colourful hairstyles and humour, the gesture also carried a clear message to the groom: the bride had a strong family support network behind her, and her uncles would be there for her if she ever faced difficulties in her marriage.
