A Thai woman who had been reported missing for about a week was found dead inside a suitcase stored in a freezer at an office in Taichung, Taiwan.
Thai media identified the victim as Duangpon Arthan, who was believed to be from Nakhon Ratchasima.
According to the Bangkok Post, citing Channel News Asia and the Taipei Times, the victim’s boyfriend, a 43-year-old man identified as Wu, has been arrested and charged with murder.
The woman reportedly arrived in Taiwan on Sept 2 before Wu travelled to meet her at a hotel near Ximending, Taipei, on Sept 12.
CCTV footage later showed Wu leaving the hotel the following day while carrying a large suitcase. The victim was not seen or heard from after that.
Police traced the suspect’s movements through security footage before arresting him on Saturday.
According to reports, Wu told police that the woman wanted to end their relationship, leading to an argument between them.
He allegedly lost control and strangled her before placing her body inside the suitcase and taking it to his office in Taichung.
The suitcase was reportedly kept inside a freezer at the premises for about a week before police discovered it.
The pair are believed to have started their relationship about a year ago after meeting when Wu visited Thailand.
Taiwanese authorities are continuing their investigation into the case.
