Three people were killed after an armed man opened fire at a shopping area in Twin Falls, Idaho, on Saturday, according to a city spokesperson.
Twin Falls Police Chief Matthew Hicks said the gunman had also died and confirmed that there was no longer any threat to the local community.
The active shooting incident was reported at about 2.30pm local time (2030 GMT) near an In-N-Out Burger restaurant in a busy commercial area, city public information coordinator Josh Palmer told Reuters.
About an hour after the incident was reported, Palmer said authorities had confirmed that the shooter was no longer a threat.
During a press conference, Hicks said police had yet to determine the exact number of victims killed in the attack. However, Palmer later confirmed that three people were killed and at least two others were injured.
Police said the shooter was among those who died in the incident.
Authorities are now working to identify the gunman and determine the motive behind the attack.
The Twin Falls Police Department said on Facebook that roads around the scene and a nearby bridge were closed shortly after the shooting was reported to allow emergency operations and investigations.
Twin Falls is a city with a population of about 47,400 people located in Idaho’s Magic Valley region.
