Prosecutors presented a series of surveillance videos in court on Tuesday that they say show murder suspect Tyler Robinson on the campus of Utah Valley University before and after the fatal shooting of Charlie Kirk.
Robinson, who is charged with Kirk’s murder, appeared for the second day of a multi-day preliminary hearing in Provo, Utah. He is accused of carrying out the high-profile shooting during a Turning Point USA rally on 10 September 2025.
During the hearing, investigators played a compilation of security camera footage recorded throughout the day of the shooting. Detective David Hull, who led the investigation, testified that he believed the individual seen in the videos was Robinson.
Hull identified a man captured in footage taken hours before the shooting as Robinson, saying he was seen shortly before interacting with Turning Point USA organisers. Later recordings allegedly showed the same individual wearing different clothing and walking with a noticeable limp.
The court was also shown security footage from a university building that appeared to capture a person on the roof of a nearby structure around the time the fatal shot was fired. Moments later, the individual was seen climbing down from the roof and walking away while carrying an object in one hand.
Although the footage did not clearly show the person’s face, Hull told the court he believed the individual on the rooftop was Robinson.
Prosecutors also introduced surveillance footage recorded at around 12.30am on 11 September, roughly 12 hours after the shooting, which allegedly showed a vehicle that investigators identified as belonging to Robinson.
Hull testified that Robinson had spoken with a police officer shortly after midnight, during which the officer recorded the vehicle’s licence plate. A subsequent check revealed the vehicle was registered to Robinson, according to the investigator.
Kirk’s widow, Erika Kirk, attended Tuesday’s hearing. Before proceedings began earlier this week, the Kirk family released a statement describing each court appearance as a painful reminder of their loss while thanking supporters for their prayers and encouragement during the ongoing legal process.
According to reports, members of Kirk’s family left the courtroom before former Utah Valley University police officer Chris Bagley gave testimony relating to Kirk’s death.
