Police have arrested a babysitter to assist investigations after a 10-month-old baby boy died while under her care in Penang on Monday.
Seberang Perai Utara district police chief Assistant Commissioner Anuar Abdul Rahman said the 25-year-old woman was being investigated under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001.
“Further investigations are ongoing, including awaiting the post-mortem report to determine the actual cause of the victim’s death,” he said in a statement on Monday night.
The baby’s mother reportedly sent her son to the babysitter early that morning.
At about 9.50am, the babysitter noticed that the infant appeared weak and lethargic before taking him to a nearby health clinic.
The baby was believed to have died before reaching the clinic. An initial physical examination found no bruises on his body.
Police investigations are ongoing.
