Date:

A car repair workshop in Lahad Datu was completely destroyed after a fire broke out at Min Mekanikal Service this morning.

Lahad Datu Fire and Rescue Station (BBP) chief Sumsoa Rashid said his team received an emergency call regarding the incident at about 7.41am.

He said 18 firefighters from BBP Lahad Datu, supported by four fire engines, were dispatched to the scene located about one kilometre from the station.

“Upon arrival at 7.43am, firefighters found the fire involved a permanent car repair workshop measuring about 30 feet by 30 feet.

“The building was completely destroyed, but no casualties were reported,” he said in a statement today.

Sumsoa said firefighting operations were carried out using two hose lines with three water jets, with water supplied from a nearby fire hydrant.

The blaze was brought under control at about 8.10am, followed by cooling and safety inspection works to ensure the area was safe.

The operation ended fully at 9am after firefighters confirmed the fire had been extinguished and the location was no longer at risk.

The cause of the fire and the estimated losses are still under investigation.
