More than 600 residents involving 103 homes in Kampung Long Bemang have been affected by flooding following continuous rainfall that began since yesterday afternoon.
According to reports from the Long Bemang Volunteer Fire Brigade, floodwaters started to rise at around 3.45pm and by 6.44am today, water levels had reached more than 0.6 metres and were still showing an upward trend.
The situation has raised concern among villagers as overcast weather conditions persist, increasing fears that water levels may continue to rise if rainfall does not subside.
Authorities believe the flooding was triggered by several days of uninterrupted rain, compounded by the location of some homes built close to riverbanks and low-lying areas.
Such weather patterns highlight the vulnerability of rural settlements to sudden environmental changes, especially when river systems overflow due to prolonged rainfall.
Despite the worsening conditions, no evacuation to temporary relief centres has been carried out so far, with residents still remaining in their homes.
However, monitoring efforts are ongoing as water levels continue to fluctuate, and authorities are keeping close watch on the situation to ensure public safety.
Local emergency responders have urged residents to remain alert and prepared in case evacuation orders are issued if conditions deteriorate further.
