12 Arrested in KL as Police Rescue Trafficked Indian Woman

Date:

A 39-year-old Indian woman who was deceived with a promise of a job as a domestic helper but was instead held captive and forced into prostitution has been rescued during a police raid in central Kuala Lumpur.

According to acting KL police chief Datuk Mohamed Usuf Jan Mohamad, the woman arrived in Malaysia on July 11 and was immediately taken to a hotel in Jalan Ampang, where a 41-year-old man locked her in a room, physically assaulted her, and coerced her into sex work.

During the raid conducted at 8:30 PM under Op Noda by the Dang Wangi Criminal Investigation Division and the Kuala Lumpur police headquarters, the suspect — who confessed to running the vice operation — was arrested.

Usuf said the victim was offered RM50 to RM80 per client, while the suspect pocketed the profits. The syndicate mainly targeted foreign men from Bangladesh, Nepal, and India through street-level solicitation.

Twelve Indian nationals — including seven men and five women between the ages of 21 and 43 — were arrested during the operation. Those detained included sex workers, touts, counter staff, and customers.

Police also confiscated several items including condoms, a customer logbook, tissues, and RM267 in cash.

The case is being investigated under multiple laws: Sections 372B and 373 of the Penal Code, Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63, and Section 12 of the Anti-Trafficking in Persons and Anti-Smuggling of Migrants Act 2007 (ATIPSOM).
