A 14-year-old boy has been arrested after allegedly throwing a stone at a Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad (KTMB) train, shattering a carriage window on Thursday.
The suspect, a secondary school student, was detained on Saturday during an operation conducted by the Arau District Criminal Investigation Division and the Arau Police Station task force.
Arau district police chief Superintendent Ahmad Mohsin Md Rodi said preliminary investigations found that the teenager had admitted deliberately throwing a stone at the train while it was passing near a motorcycle overpass in Kampung Jelempok.
He claimed he was hanging out at the location with four friends at the time, but said he was the only one who threw the stone. The other four allegedly did not take part and merely watched.
Police had earlier received a report that a KTMB carriage window was shattered, believed to have happened while the train was travelling from Arau Station towards Alor Setar on Thursday.
The report was lodged at the Arau Police Station at 12.30pm on Friday.
Ahmad Mohsin said the teenager was arrested at a house in Kampung Guar Sanji.
Police also seized a Vivo Y05 mobile phone with a SIM card, as well as a stone believed to be linked to the incident.
The suspect, who has no previous criminal record, is being held at the Kangar Police Station lock-up to assist investigations.
The case is being investigated under Section 427 of the Penal Code.
