A 14-year-old Form Two student who was feared missing in Sungai Kelantan near Kampung Batu Mengkebang, Jalan Batu Lada, Aur Duri, Kuala Krai, was found drowned on Wednesday.

The victim, Luth Naiman Mohd Noor Aziron from Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Sultan Yahya Petra 1, was discovered at about 9.10am, approximately 50 metres from the spot where he was last seen.

However, his friend, Mohd Rayyan Hakimi, also 14, remains missing as the search and rescue operation continues.

Kuala Krai Fire and Rescue Station chief Senior Fire Superintendent Nik Ahmad Afsham Nik Pa said Luth Naiman was found at a depth of about three metres.

“The victim’s body was handed over to his family and the police for further action.

“The remains will be taken to Hospital Sultan Ismail Petra for a post-mortem,” he said when met by reporters at the scene on Wednesday.

The two students were previously reported missing after they were believed to have gone swimming in the river with three other friends near Kampung Batu Mengkebang on Tuesday.

The incident prompted a search and rescue operation involving 12 personnel from the Water Rescue Unit (PPDA) of Pengkalan Chepa, Pengkalan Kubor and Kuala Krai fire and rescue stations.

Authorities are continuing efforts to locate Mohd Rayyan, while the circumstances surrounding the incident remain under investigation.
