A 16-year-old Form Four student was found dead at a secondary school in Yong Peng, Johor, yesterday afternoon in what is believed to be a murder.
The teenager, identified as Irene Sofiya Mohd Khairool Faisal, was reportedly found in a school hall after she went to the school to attend a tuition class.

According to a source, the teenager lived with her grandmother, who realised she was missing after one of her friends called around noon to ask whether she was at home.
The grandmother then rushed to the school and found Irene lying in the hall with what appeared to be injuries.
“She was found weak and lying down with dried blood and bruising that appeared to be from being beaten. She was still conscious when she was found before later losing consciousness,” the source said.
The victim was subsequently found to have died.
The source said Irene was an orphan who had been living with her grandmother in the district following her mother’s death, while her father worked in Kuala Lumpur.
Meanwhile, Batu Pahat district police chief Assistant Commissioner Shahrulanuar Mushaddat Abdullah Sani confirmed that the case was still under investigation.
He said officers from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) were conducting further investigations.
Members of the public were seen gathering outside the school compound as news of the incident spread.
Several forensic team vehicles from the Johor police contingent headquarters were also seen at the school hall as investigators examined the scene.
